Bystanders Assist in Motor Vehicle Crash That Sparks Grass Fire

Williams Lake RCMP is saying Kudos to our community following a serious motor vehicle crash on Chimney Valley Road which was minimized thanks to multiple people that were in the area.

Police say a vehicle crashed Thursday afternoon and caught fire starting a grass fire in the valley and with the relatively dry conditions it took off across up the side hill.

The folks that came upon the scene immediately stepped up and assisted the Williams Lake RCMP, the BC Forestry wildfire team, and Chimney/Felker Fire Department.

“Teamwork like this is what it is about,” said Inspector Jeff Pelley, Officer in Command of the Detachment.

“Working together to continue to make our community safer is so important and we are so very grateful to the community hero’s in this case. We do not know all that helped although you know who you are and we sincerely want to say ‘thanks’.”

The injuries to the occupant of the vehicle were minimal and the magnitude of the fire was the same.

“Again, thanks to our community,” says Pelley.
