Cariboo athletes take part in weekend international events

A couple of Cariboo athletes will be involved in international sporting events over the weekend.

Quesnel’s James Gemmell and the Canadian men’s sledge hockey team will be going for bronze tomorrow at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Leduc, Alberta.

Canada plays Korea for third place.

That follows a disappointing 2-1 loss to Russia in the semi-finals.

Russia will meet the United States in the gold medal game.

Williams Lake’s Julia Flinton and the Canadian women’s hockey team will play their 2nd game at the World University Winter Games in Spain on Sunday.

Russia will provide the opposition.

Canada beat Kazakhstan 7-1 in their opening game of the tournament.

And Williams Lake’s Kayla Moleschi is with Team Canada at the Women’s 7’S Rugby World Series in Brazil for games tomorrow and on Sunday.

This is the 2nd stop for the tour.

The top 4 teams, at the conclusion, automatically qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
