The owner of Town Taxi in Williams Lake was presented with the Accessibility Award of Merit during Tuesday night’s regular City Council meeting.
Mayor Walt Cobb spoke highly of Nirmal Singh and his efforts of bringing in the only accessible taxi to the Lakecity.
“It gives an opportunity for people with disabilities to do things, go out for dinner, whatever when the Go Bus is not operating so I think it’s a great asset to our community. I really appreciate Town Taxi coming forward and making that commitment, and spending the money because I know those vehicles are not cheap.”
The accessible taxi had given its first inaugural ride to Anna Rawlek who suffers from MS from her family home to Save-On-Foods in December of 2016.
