Animal cruelty complaints on the rise

The BC SPCA says animal cruelty investigations spiked by 1,000 cases last year.

Marcie Moriarty, BC SPCA Chief Prevention and Enforcement Officer, says when it comes to the Cariboo she wishes she could say the area was cruelty-free but that unfortunately wasn’t the case.

Moriarty says she believes the spike to indicative of more people being aware of animal welfare issues.

Two Cariboo residents appeared in Williams Lake Provincial court, one for an arraignment and the other to fix a date, on charges of animal cruelty yesterday.
