Allowable Annual Cut Released For Quesnel

It’s now official….the allowable annual cut is going down for the Quesnel Timber Supply Area.

But not by as much as some had predicted.

Chief Forester Diane Nicholls announced today that it is now just over 2.6 million cubic metres.

That is down about 35 percent from the 4 million cubic metres set in 2011.

Nicholls points out though that it is about the same as it was in 1996…before the mountain pine beetle infestation began.

Many were predicting a cut of around 2.1 million cubic metres.

The new cut sets limits to harvest maximums of 127 thousand from deciduous tree-leading stands and 1.25 million to living trees.

The remainder must be harvested from dead trees.
