Local MLA responds to reduced wildlife allocation complaints

The MLA for Cariboo North has promised local hunters that she will take their message to Victoria.

Coralee Oakes, responding to complaints about reduced wildlife allocations, says many of these hunters have hunted for generations and she says they have valuable information.

Oakes says she has been working on the domesticated elk problem since she got elected.

She says even she is frustrated that 30 miles to the north to Prince George they have an open season on elk.

Oakes says one of the challenges in our zone is that it is treated differently because of the Tsilhqot’in Decision.

She says people are still trying to work their way through what that means.

More than 200 people signed a petition at the Quesnel Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday asking that the allocations go back to the agreement they had with the Provincial Government in 2007.
