Theatre And Art On Display In Barkerville

The Barkerville Heritage Trust is hosting it’s AGM tomorrow (June 17) and the Theatre Royal Gala will premiere three different summer shows.

James Douglas is the Manager of Visitor Experiences…

“The 1 pm show is the Fred Wells show, the 4 pm show is the Cariboo Gold Radio Hour and then Mrs. McGinley’s variety show at 7 pm for a full day of gold rush theatre followed by a dance at the house hotel.”

Here, Douglas talks about the Cariboo Gold Radio Hour…

“A very popular 1930’s to 50’s musical celebration of the kinds of music that was being listened to here in Barkerville. It’s done like an actual radio broadcast so the actors and singers on stage are doing sound effects and things right in front of you as they are braodcasting to the airwaves.”

Douglas says a double sided painting by Alexander Young Jackson, better known as A.Y. Jackson, will also be on display.

He says one side shows the Kwong Sang Wing Store that is still standing in Barkerville and the other features the Onward Ranch near 150 Mile.

Douglas says the painting will be in a 360 degree display case that will allow you to walk around it and see both sides.
