Salmonid Enhancement Program to Stay

The Salmonid Enhancement Program received a reprieve from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

The federal ministry announced that it was defunding the program last month.

Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty voiced opposition to the proposed cuts but says true credit for the reversal announced today belongs to citizens who spoke out.

“With the salmon enhancement program so vital to the province of British Columbia, to schools, to the province’s rivers, lakes, and stream; wow, a big win and I just want to say thank you.”

“The message that we heard today was that this wasn’t just a temporary fix, this was going to be a long-term fix. They recognized that it was a valuable program.  Again that’s departure from what the Minister’s comments were on May 31.”
