First nations call upon provincial government to implement all recommendations from Mt. Polley report

First Nations are calling upon the provincial government to implement all of the recommendations that were made following Friday’s independent report on what caused the Mt. Polley tailings pond breach.

Chief Anne Louie of the Williams Lake Indian Band, says they will be watching the provincial government closely that they hold true to their word.

The 3 member panel made seven recommendations to the provincial government after they announced that a critical design flaw was the root cause of the August 4 breach.

The provincial government says they are implementing a new requirement that all operating mines within the province with tailings storage facilities establish independent tailings dam review boards.
