Council discuss fish dilemma at Dragon Lake

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says eventually fish in Dragon Lake will have to be killed off and restocked.

Quesnel City Councillor John Brisco raised the issue on Monday night’s regular meeting after revealing that Koi were out-competing Rainbow Trout for the food.

Brisco noted that he had been talking with Brian Murland with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Councillor Scott Elliott wanted to assure the public that if it had to be done that it wouldn’t involve poison…

Elliott added that mammals and birds would also not be affected if this step was taken.

Council now plans to have a technical presentation on the issue at an upcoming North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee meeting.

The final decision on how to deal with the problem, however, according to Mayor Bob Simpson, would be made by the province.
