Westpine MDF Celebrates Official Reopening

A ribbon cutting ceremony officially re-opened West Fraser’s MDF Plant in Quesnel on Friday.

The mill of course, was the site of an explosion and fire in March of last year.

Jim Scott is the Mill Manager at the MDF plant.

“We reconfigured the way the material flowed through the plant and made it safer to operate plus we added state of the art fire explosion detection equipment at all ends of the plant.”

Scott says the first board actually went through the press at the end of April and they have been doing some fine tuning ever since.

He says they are almost back to full production.

There are 100 employees at the mill and Scott says the company kept them working throughout this process doing things like maintenance, clean-up, supporting all the construction activies and helping to design some of the new processes and safety equipment.

Fortunately no one was hurt in last year’s fire.
