Quesnel Council Happy Longtime Request For Carson Avenue Fulfilled

The Ministry of Transportation has addressed a concern raised by Quesnel City Council about Carson Avenue.

City Manager Byron Johnson says staff was notified on May 25th that the right turn only lane will be re-established at the corner of Carson and Kinchant Street…

“Urban systems is actually working with the ministry on their whole safety improvement from boundary to boundary project but they were asked to take a look specifically at this and they came back with a recommendation that quite magically mirrored what Council has been requesting for quite along time now.”

Johnson says that is expected to happen sometime this month.

Council now has two other requests of the Ministry…one to change the truck parking spots on Front Street between Carson and the Moffat Bridge back to general parking for people wanting to stop near the Water Wheel and the Hudsons Bay building and to put up a sign for trucks travelling south to keep going straight onto Legion Drive and onto Williams Lake as opposed to turning left and heading through the downtown core.

Mays Bob Simpson notes that people working on the Hudsons Bay building have noticed that the trucks, with bigger heavier loads, are struggling to make that sometimes unnecessary turn.
