Business Break and Enters on the Rise in Williams Lake

Sushi California in Williams Lake is the latest business to fall victim of a break and enter which according to the latest crime stats have gone up 88%.

RCMP Officer in Charge, Inspector Jeff Pelley says although they apprehended one offender responsible for multiple break and enters, they recommend business owners to do their due diligence.

“In respect to alarms, ensuring that no cash is kept on sight, as well as perhaps assess their camera system. Some of the camera system and video that we received is very dated and analog which portrays a very poor image of the acts or individuals.”

From January 1 through April 30, 2017, the Detachment responded to 25 break and enters to business.

The latest incident occurred on June 1, 2017 when RCMP received a call at 6:45 am to Sushi California located on Oliver Street.

Police say a rock was used to smash the back door and that a cash register and $300 in cash was stolen.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Williams Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
