Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department Busy On Friday

We now have details about a structure fire on 2-mile flat in Quesnel on Friday evening.

Fire Chief Sylvain Gauthier says they were called out to the intersection of Hilborn Road and Highway 97 at around 7 o’clock…

“Upon arrival heavy smoke was seen coming off from the second storey of the building. The building is a two storey building with two apartments on the upper floor and the fire was in the kitchen.”

Gauthier says the fire was contained to the one unit and that is sustained heavy smoke damage and some fire damage.

He says the lone occupant was home and suffered smoke inhalation.

The other apartment was vacant at the time.

Gauthier says the cause of the fire was due to cooking.
