Reserves discussed at budget meeting

The Williams Lake Finance Committee discussed the City’s reserves Thursday night.

Councilor and Chair of the Committee, Scott Nelson says it was another good, if not surprising, discussion that was open to the public.

Nelson says Councillor Craig Smith will work to identify where the funds, which will help with key capital projects be used.

Nelson adds that the 1st challenge of the City was to get costs under control.

He shares what will be the next biggest challenge moving forward.

Nelson says development has been delayed at New Prosperity Ridge due to the Ministry of Transportation requesting additional traffic roadways be built in the area, which the City does not have the current funds for.

The projected reserve funds from 2014 is an estimated $8 million dollars.

The next public meeting will take place on Thursday at Williams Lake City Council Chambers.
