Torch arrives with community celebration in Quesnel

From Fort St. John to Terrace, the Canada Winter Games Regional Community Torch Celebrations made their way to Quesnel Saturday evening.

92-year-old Quesnel resident Tom Moffat who beared the torch says he never could have pictured the Winter Games, let alone a celebration, coming to Northern BC.

Moffat, says it was a not only an honor but a surprise to be the torch bearer.

As for when the Canada Winter Games will return to the province, Stu Valentine, CEO of the Winter Games, says it won’t’ be for another 26 years.

The evening which featured speeches from local dignitaries, skating, and of course, Billy Barker and the Winter Games’ mascot Nanguz, concluded with fireworks.

2,400 athletes are anticipated to participate in the 2015 Canada Winter Games which will run in Prince George from February 13 from March 1st.
