Mixed Message To Cariboo Unemployment Numbers

There is double digit unemployment for the first time in a long time in the Cariboo Region.

Andrew Fields is a Labour Market Analyst for Statistics Canada…

“It looks like the unemployment rate in Cariboo increased to 10 percent. That’s compared with 6.7 percent last March so certainly that is a notable increase.”

Fields says it should be noted however that the actual number of people employed in the region is actually up a bit from a year ago.

There were 79,400 people working in the region last month, up from 76,900.

He says the reason for the high unemployment rate is that a lot more people are looking for work in the Cariboo.

This is the largest unemployment rate however, since March of 2010.

Something going on in the Cariboo you think people should know about?
