Quesnel Toastmasters Celebrate 50 Years

A not-for profit-educational club for people to improve public speaking, communication, and leadership skills is celebrating 50 years in Quesnel.

Ruby Derksen is the President of Toastmasters.

She says she has been with the Club for 13 years.

“There was a time in my life, kind of a hard time in my life and I was looking for something new and I always did like public speaking. So I went and basically I got addicted to it and the people that I’ve met. Over the years I’ve made so friends.”

Derksen adds that it’s quite an accomplishment for a club to make 50 years.

They’ll be hosting the Area 41 International and Evaluation Contests from 5:30-9:00pm at the Anglican Church tonight (Saturday) followed by cake to celebrate the occasion.

The Club which meets at the CNC campus every Wednesday currently has 12 members.
