Traffic Tension In Quesnel ?

The Mayor of Quesnel is a little less than pleased at what the city’s role has become in potentially making safety changes to the Highway 97 corridor in the area.

Bob Simpson, in talking about an upcoming public meeting on Monday, also spoke about the city’s changing relationship at last night’s City Council meeting…

“Unfortunately quite frankly we’re being invited just as a stakeholder now. We were a partner in this process up until it went sideways, now we just get an invitation. We actually found out by way of a press release that they were having a public consultation session and yet every one of our intersections all have to be rethought through trying to do the flow, so it’s still a bit bizarre.”

The Ministry of Transportation is hosting an open house between 4 and 8 o’clock at the Senior’s Centre.

It’s no secret some Council members and local MLA Coralee Oakes have not seen eye to eye on the issue of transportation.

Councillor Scott Elliott questioned why it has taken so long to get to this point…

“We started these conversations about the safety issues and we’ve been waiting a year and a half to find out any reports on what’s happened from a 300 thousand dollar study from city limit to city limit and it’s been shelved for a year and a half. Meanwhile, there have been some real safety concerns.”

Elliott wants to know if the results from that study will finally be released at this meeting.
