City approves purchase of security cameras

Williams Lake city council unanimously approved the purchase of up to six security cameras Tuesday evening.

Jeff Pelley is the Inspector at the local RCMP detachment.

“We’ve been working closely with the City and Mayor and Council to enhance the current camera systems that are in place all over the City. They’re analog and they’re lacking in their actual clarity.”

Pelley says they are in the assessment process of determining what location would serve to be beneficial based on certain acts of individuals, crime trends, and locations that keep a wide view.

The City which had also approved the costs in last year’s budget is hoping to have a total of 30 cameras in place by purchasing up to 6 cameras at the cost of $25,000 a year.
