Slew of funding announcements not an election ploy says Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA

A balanced budget with a surplus can be attributed to the latest round of funding announcements across the province according to the MLA for the Cariboo-Chilcotin.

Donna Barnett says although everyone is saying an ‘election is coming, the goodies are coming’ that has nothing to do with the election.

“When you have a balanced budget and an AAA credit rating you have extra funds to spend. A lot of this has been in the plans for years and you can’t do it until you have the money.”

Green Party candidate, Rita Giesbrecht however, feels otherwise.

She says to announce millions of dollars in funding for programs that have been neglected up until now starting with the teachers, as a ploy.

“This is stuff that always happens at election time. This is old school politics of the most predictable kind and this is exactly what we expected from the Liberals.”

NDP candidate Sally Watson did not respond for comment.

Her campaign manager says they are currently preparing to open offices in both Williams Lake and 100 Mile House on April 1.
