With spring just a week away the Cariboo Fire Centre is preparing for another fire season.
“In the spring and throughout the fire season, the Cariboo Fire Centre maintains its’ level of preparedness by studying weather forecasts and monitoring site conditions, says fire information officer Natasha Broznitsky.
“Some crews are back to work now and others will arrive later in the spring.”
Broznitsky says that some low areas and valleys around the Cariboo Fire Centre have a lower than average snowpack for this time of year so we may see an earlier start to the fire season, however if below freezing temperatures and new snowfalls continue we may not.
Last year’s wildfire season in BC was considered to be below average in terms of cost, number of fire starts, and amount of land burned.
