Housing Development Being Proposed For Downtown Quesnel

A residential 4-storey 38 unit affordable housing complex is being proposed for downtown Quesnel.

The developer is asking City Council to amend the Official Community Plan and Zoning bylaws to allow the project, in the 400 block of McLean Street, to go ahead.

Tanya Turner is the Director of Development Services…

“The OCP specifically states that residential use will only be permitted above the ground floor. This is to retain commercial enterprises in the downtown district and this is a good policy, we do not want to change this policy for all of the developments.”

Turner says that is why the change is only for this lot.

This proposed development, because it is targeting the singles/single-parent housing market, is eligible for a 10 year 100 percent tax exemption and waiver of Development Cost Charges as part of the City’s Multi-Family Housing Incentive Bylaw.

Council gave first reading to the changes setting the stage for a Public Hearing on April 18th.
