Multiple Funding Announcements For North Cariboo

Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes made several funding announcements today, including 6-million dollars for a new affordable housing project in Quesnel…

“This will be a brand new expanded facility for replace the current small Seasons House. It will provide an additional, on top of 30 units for people who are at risk of homelessness, and will include space that can be used for shelter beds.”

Oakes says they have purchased property in West Quesnel and are just waiting on the zoning to be able to say where.

The other big announcement in terms of the amount of funding was 9-million dollars on roads in the area…7-million to resurface Highway 24 from Wingdam to Barkerville and 2 million on Blackwater Road west of Quesnel, Tibbles Road just off the Nazko and Dragon Lake Road.

Some of the other announcements Oakes made today include….

-$ 167,000 to the College of New Caledonia for the Horticulture Technician and Agribusiness program and a new Tourism Services program.
-$ 168,000 to Quesnel Employment Services for their Experience Counts and Work Ready programs.
-$100,000 to the Xatsull First Nation for trail development at the Xatsull Heritage Villiage.
-$100,000 for the Lhtako Dene First Nation to develop a Kiln Stick mill which will supply West Fraser.
-$127,800 to Barkerville
-$140,000 to CNC for a Construction Training program
-$96,000 to the Cariboo Regional District, in partnership with UNBC, to support economic diversification
-$100,000 to the City of Quesnel for a Professional, Skills, Trades and Recruitment program

Oakes also announced a film tax credit for rural communities and three new BC Transit routes, part of a 6 week pilot project, to help students get to and from the North Cariboo Community Campus.
