last day for the imss office in williams lake will be the last day of march

Due to a funding cut from the Federal Government, staff  at The Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society office in Williams Lake were told last Friday by phone from the IMSS in Prince George that they will be closing at the end of the month.

Sharon Pannu  IMSS Acting  Executive Director in Prince George explains the decision.

“The reason that we had to make this very tough decision was that our main office is in Prince George and that in order to maintain the employees and maintain the services because the majority of the clientel is Prince George and the surrounding areas”.

Sharon Taylor is the Settlement Practitioner in Williams Lake and we asked her  if she sees a light at the end of the tunnel.

“Yeah I think there’s real potential for something to change whether we continue with IMSS of Prince George or whether another organization takes over. Our concern is simply that settlement services remain available and that language classes remain available”.

Taylor said they will be holding a public information session at their Williams Lake IMSS office on First Avenue tomorrow night at 6:30.
