rural healthcare summit update

Last week over 120 attendees from across the country assembled at the Rural Healthcare Summit in Ottawa to discuss ways to improve health care access and equity for rural and indigenous communities.

Among them was Williams Lake Councilor and Community member Laurie Walters who says delegates were asked to choose one of the 19 action plans that would be good for the nation and could be achieved in one year and this is what they agreed upon.

“ Establish Government and University Partnerships with Rural Physicians, Rural Communities and Regional Health Authorities that include formal agreement to strengthen the delivery of medical education in rural communities by developing and implementing specifics”.

Walters says the one day summit showed her that from coast to coast the needs are very similar when it comes to improving health care access and equity for rural and indigenous communities.
