Ice Fishing Derby Set to go Tomorrow in Lone Butte

A popular event in the South Cariboo is set to run tomorrow morning for the 2nd year in a row.

The Lone Butte Community Ice Fishing Derby will take place at Loon Bay Resort on Sheridan Lake beginning bright and early at 7am.

Manuela Betschart, president of the Fishing HWY 24 Tourist Association says they are expecting a similar turnout to last year.

“Last year we had some parents come with their kids and grand-kids, whole entire families came out and up 12 people from the same family came together.”

The 1st place prize for this year’s derby is $1000 cash, 2nd place is a prize valued at $300, and 3rd place is a prize valued at $200.

Prizes will be handed out at 12:15pm at the Loon Bay Resort and you must be present to win a prize.

Last year’s winning fish was around 4 pounds.
