Cariboo Challenge cancelled

A lack of snow and a questionable seven-day forecast has led to the cancellation of the Jack Gawthorn Memorial Sled Dog Race.

President of the Cariboo Challenge Sled Dog Society Craig Conklin says that, for safety, they would have needed about a foot of snow to run the event.

“Really it depends on the type of snow but typically about 12 inches gives you enough of a base to pack down.”

“You can run sleds on what we have right now (3 inches), but you can’t get off the sled.”

Despite the cancellation of the race, the Family Fun Night on Friday, January 9th will still be running on Birch Avenue in 100 Mile House.
