An avalanche warning that was first issued on Christmas Day has been extended to January 4th.
Senior Avalanche Forecaster James Floyer shares why the warning which applies to the Cariboos and North Rockies will continue into the New Year.
“We felt as though dangerous avalanche conditions are persisting, in many parts especially in the interior of BC.”
“Really nothing significant has changed in the snow pact has warranted us stopping that avalanche warning that we had previously released. In fact, if anything we are expecting the potential for bigger avalanches to occur.”
All back-country users must be equipped with essential avalanche safety equipment, and also a shovel.
Floyer says there have been recent reports of skiers and snowmobilers involved in avalanches.
