School Trustees In Quesnel Vote For Raise

Quesnel’s Board of Education has given itself a raise.

Trustee stipends will be given a 1.9 percent bump, which is line with B.C’s Consumer Price Index.

That amounts to roughly 15-hundred 55 dollars a year for Trustees.

Trustee Tony Goulet was the only one opposed.

He’s concerned about the timing…

“I am looking at the bigger picture and what we have for enrollment coming in and our numbers, it’s pretty scary. If we are going to ask for anything, we need to find some stability within the system.”

Other Trustees felt that it was time for a raise after taking just .9 percent in the past 4 years and another common theme was that it would help to offset Trustee-related costs for things like phones and internet.

Board Chair Gloria Jackson will now make $13,733, Vice-Chair Goulet $12,588 and the five other Trustees $11,444 annually.
