The Tsilhqot’in and other First Nations Chiefs and supporters held a rally on the steps of the Federal Court in Vancouver this morning.

It was to protest Taseko Mines Limited’s bid to revive the New Prosperity Mine.

Yunesit’in Chief Russell Myers-Ross says it has been rejected twice by the Federal Government and primarily for the same reasons…

“I think from our nation it is always surprising. It’s just a lot of energy in terms of time and money and commitment to look at a proposal that we see won’t match our values or how we want development in our territory.”

Myers-Ross says the hearing is expected to continue all week.

He says Taseko has also sent in a proposal to the Province for a permit to do extensive drilling and other tests in the area.

Myers-Ross says the honourable thing for the Provincial Government to do is to turn the project down and to stop wasting their time.
