The Ministry of Energy and Mines has authorized Mt. Polley to begin repairs of the breach in its tailings storage facility dam.

Minster Bill Bennett shares the government’s decision in approving the amendment to the mine’s permit that will allow Mt Polley. to undertake the work.

“We had to ensure that the three investigations were okay with the company starting to repair the breach in the dam and this will not interfere with what the investigators are doing,” he says.

“Secondly, we at the Ministry of Environment wanted to make sure that whatever water ends up in the tailings facility does not escape.”

The amendment does not allow Mt. Polley to restart its ore processing operations.
