The recent cold snap that has swept across the Cariboo-Chilcotin may have claimed two lives.
BC Coroners Service spokesperson Barb McLintock says one of things that they’re trying to encourage the public to do is to check on their neighbor.
“Especially if your neighbor lives alone, your’e in a rural or remote area, and even more so if you know that neighbor is may be elderly or frail. Just go by and see that they’re OK and that they do have heat in their house where they’re living, that they have water, that the pipes haven’t all frozen up, that they have food or a way to get food.”
McLintock says a man was found dead outside west of Anahim Lake on December 4th.
She says the second death occurred in Likely where a man in his 60’s who had several health problems was found deceased inside his home.
She says it was evident that the home had no heat.
Although there is still no clear cause to the two deaths, McLintock says that they have enough similarities and concern for the Coroners Service to warn the public that cold temperatures can be dangerous.
