100 Mile House school trustee resigns

The trustee for Zone 3 of the Board of Education for School District No. 27 has submitted his resignation.

Chris Pettman says he’ll still be helping children and families, but just in a different capacity.

“I’m just finishing my Master’s Degree in Business Administration and I just have one course to go plus my end project-my Capstone Project. The reason why I’m doing that is to take over as Executive Director for the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre.”

Pettman’s resignation as Trustee for Zone 3 will be effective December 30, 2016.

He says that he really enjoyed his time with the School Board and that it was a great honor to represent children of families of the South Cariboo.

He adds that his biggest challenge as a trustee was deciding if the Board should close schools.

“In my tenure we did close 6 schools. Never do you want to wake up and close a school. It’s always a last resort, but those were really tough decisions and they really weighed heavy on myself and I’m sure all of my fellow trustees.”

The Municipality of 100 Mile House will have 30 days to appoint a Chief Election Officer after having received notice from the Board in which an election must then be called within 80 days.

An election meanwhile for a trustee for Zone 7-West of Williams Lake will be held on January 21, 2017.

Nominations for that position close Friday, December 16th.
