Vehicle stop leads to seizure of weapons and explosives

Williams Lake RCMP have taken a substantial amount of dangerous weapons off the street.

Yesterday police were on their way to a call when they saw a car in the neighborhood which caught their attention.

The occupants also caught the attention of police due to some suspicious activity, that led to a traffic stop.

During the stop, police noticed weapons inside the vehicle that were of concern.

As a result, all three occupants were arrested and the vehicle was searched leading to a substantial seizure.

The offenders were found to be in possession of a handgun, long-barreled firearms, prohibited weapons and various disguises.

Further investigation determined the vehicle contained potentially explosive devices identified as pipe bombs. Williams Lake RCMP immediately engaged the Explosives Disposal Unit to ensure the safe disposal of the pipe bombs.

“It will remain a priority for our detachment and officers to proactively target violent offenders within this community,” said RCMP Inspector Jeff Pelley.

“There is no doubt that this arrest and seizure prevented a violent act from happening, therefore, making the community safer.

The investigation continues and the three individuals remain in police custody at this time and a substantial amount of charges are being recommended to Crown Counsel.
