With the cold weather keeping many indoors it’s important to do the same when it comes to your four legged friends.
Veterinarian Asha MacDonald with the Williams Lake Veterinary Hospital says the main thing to do at this time of year is to not leave them outside for extended periods of time.
“Especially we do see quite a bit more of frostbite in cats. So cat owners need to just be careful that their cats are not getting too chilly and that they do have some shelter if they are going outside.”
MacDonald says the first signs of frostbite is that the ears and paw area may be more red or pink than usual.
She says if severe enough frostbite can progress to the tissue dying and turning black, leaving a painful situation for your pet.
