City of Quesnel In Talks With First Nations

Seeking partnership opportunities based on mutual respect.

That’s the idea behind talks that are underway between the City of Quesnel and the Lhtako Dene and Nazko First Nations.

Mayor Bob Simpson says they will continue the conversations that they’ve started in the new year…

“Particularly as we move towards Canada’s celebration on July 1st. We would like to be able to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada having done right by the original people who settled here before the settlers came in and created the city that we now enjoy.”

Simpson says he hopes that the City can partner with First Nations on things like tourism and business.

He says Quesnel is lagging behind other communities such as Williams Lake and Prince George that already have protocol agreements in place.
