Highway 97 upgrade update

The stretch of Highway 97 between 150 Mile House and Williams Lake has been undergoing some changes as the province pushes forward with phase two of twining the north-south connector.

Over the past week or so the work has been winding down and so we thought an update was needed.

Maike Schimpf from the Department of Highways tells us the crews are preparing for the winter shut down… “ready for winter layup and they’ve got a bit of work that they’ll be doing til, probably close to Christmas but not as much obviously with the ground freezing and the snow and such, then they’ll be back in the spring”.

This phase of the project covers just over 6KM’s of Highway 97 from just north of 150 Mile House to just outside the Williams Lake city limits and is pegged at a cost of 47-million dollars.

The long term goal is twining the highway from Cache Creek to Prince George and once this project is complete 50% of the target will have been reached.

The overall work has been going on for about nine years.
