Cariboo Jobless Rate Holds The Line

The jobless rate in the Cariboo region remained stable last month.

Andrew Fields, a Labor Market Analyst for Stats Canada, says the unemployment rate was 7.2 percent in November.

That is virtually unchanged from last November when it was 7.1 percent.

Taking a closer look at the numbers, Fields says there were about 1600 fewer people working in full-time and 13-hundred more people working in part-time.

Fields says there were increases in the agriculture and natural resource industries that were offset by declines in manufacturing and accommodation and food services.

BC, meanwhile, continues to lead the country in growth at 2.1 percent and continues to have Canada’s lowest unemployment rate at 6.1 percent.

By comparison Alberta is at 9 percent, Ontario is at 6.3 and Quebec is right behind B.C. at 6.2 percent.
