numbers from illicit drug deaths in the province are staggering

According to the latest statistics from the BC Corners Service the total number of deaths from illicit drug overdoses was 622 in the first 10 months of this year compared to 397 this time last year.

Harm Reduction Co-Ordinator for the Williams Lake Boys and Girls Club Jordan Davis breaks down the percentages of the age groups that made up these stats.

“The highest use and right now death category is age 30 to 39. 175 of those 622 deaths were in that age category and then the next down from that is 141 overdose deaths in the age category of 40 to 49 so it’s not youth that this affecting in the highest percentage”.

From January through September 2016 Fentanyl was detected in a total of 332 cases or about sixty percent of all illicit drug deaths.
