Stats-Canada: Slight Unemployment Rise in Cariboo

The unemployment rate edged up in the Cariboo region last month.

Jason Gilmour, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats-Canada, says the jobless rate was 4.7 percent in November, up from 4.4 in November of 2013.

Gilmour says the actual number of people working was roughly the same, around 84 thousand, but he says that doesn’t tell the whole story.

“Basically what we saw in the Cariboo, over that period full-time employment declined by 4,000, while part-time employment increased by 4,000.”

Gilmour says there weren’t any big shifts in employment in any specific industry compared to a year ago.
