Fatal Collision on Highway 97 Claims One Life

There was a fatal accident in Quesnel Friday afternoon.

Quesnel RCMP Cpl. Curt Banse, the Unit Commander for North Cariboo Highway Patrol, says they responded to a 2-vehicle crash at around 12:54 at the intersection of the Highway and Dragon Hill Road, a frontage road in front of Aroma Foods.

Banse says witnesses at the scene told them that a Pontiac Montana van was attempting to pull out onto the Highway and proceed across both lanes when it was struck by a Southbound Dodge Ram.

“Both drivers were taken to GR Baker Hospital, here in Quesnel, and having just received word that the one driver of the van was pronounced deceased despite the best efforts of emergency personnel.”

“As far as I know both drivers are from the Quesnel area.”

Banse says the Highway was down to single lane alternating traffic as RCMP continue to investigate.

The victim’s name has not been released and Banse says alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.

RCMP would like to remind motorists that as it is winter there are very few dry sections of road and it is important to exercise patience when you are waiting for traffic.
