Where will the Williams Lake Museum wind up?

The Williams Lake Museum is bursting at the seams with no room to take on even the smallest of new artifacts or displays without another having to be shelved, so the hunt is on for funding to relocate the museum.

Williams Lake City Council last night endorsed a request to apply to the provincial Rural Dividend Program for half a million dollars to relocate the museum and with it, the 153 Mile Store.

Councilor Scott Nelson says the 153 Mile Store is a pristine example of a heritage building depicting the past…”the 153 mile store is an old store that’s been donated to the city of Williams Lake if we can find a fantastic location to highlight what it has inside. It’s one of the best museum-style homes in the Cariboo.”

The 153 Store is considered one of, if not the best example of a rural heritage store in all of North America and will be moved to the new location of the city’s museum when that location is announced and funded.

Among the areas being considered for a heritage park is the Stampede Grounds.
