Barkerville Reaches New Attendance High

The historic town of Barkerville broke a 25-year attendance record this past season.

Ed Coleman, the CEO, says they had 64,765 visitors come through the gate at the close of their summer season on September 26th.

That is up from just over 60 thousand last year and Coleman says they are hoping to hit 70 thousand next year for Canada’s 150th birthday celebration.”

Coleman says a friendly fire season and reasonable gas prices helped to contribute to their success this year as well as social media.

He says having Wi-Fi available throughout the whole site allows people to take selfies and advertise the site for them.

Coleman says they now move into what he calls their “activities season”…something he says will include a new Shamrock life tube run.

He says there will be a 200-foot conveyor belt and three different lanes for tubing.
