SD 27 Board loses vote of non-confidence

The Cariboo-Chilcotin Teachers Association has taken a vote of non-confidence in School District 27 board.

The vote is the result of three years of frustration from the CCTA regarding one line in the districts budget, a two-million dollar contingency fund.

President of the CCTA, Murray Helmer says the CCTA believes the money could be better used to help students ” we’re concerned about where the district is going and the decisions that have been made in recent weeks around leadership, around finance, we are just concerned that they are operating in a manner that isn’t supportive of schools in the system and the students in the system.”

For her part, Tanya Guenther, Chair of the Board of Education for School District 27 says there is a protocol in place for concerns to be brought forward to the board and she says in this case, that has not happened, ” as of today the concerns expressed by the president of CCTA in his press release have not been communicated with the board, other than through the media.”

Helmer has a meeting later today with MLA Donna Barnett.
