Where Is Bypass For Quesnel On Province’s Priority List ?

Quesnel City Council wants the province’s Transportation Minister to clarify where the government stands on a potential bypass or truck route for Quesnel.

Mayor Bob Simpson noted that for far too long a bypass has been a deflection point from getting safety improvements and highway flow improvements done on highway 97.

Simpson says if they are told that there won’t be a bypass for 10 years or 15 years they can at least then move forward…

“We can actually get a treasury board submission in for the kind of dollars we need to make the substantive improvements to Highway 97 that have not been done because we’re going to get a bypass some day.”

Simpson adds that if there isn’t a bypass coming in the near future, it would be good to get a second crossing of the Fraser River, which is a much less expensive project to get the traffic off of Front Street.

He says the first step however, has to be to get the ministry to get the traffic analysis that was done recently into the public domain.
