Quesnel Residents Get Boost In The Fight Against Breast Cancer

G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel will soon be getting a new digital mammography machine.

A funding announcement was made yesterday.

Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes was on hand along with representatives of Integris Credit Union and the Quesnel Women’s Fall Challenge.

All tolled the province is putting in more than 1 million dollars while more than 200 thousand dollars was raised by the Women’s Fall Challenge and another 181 thousand dollars from Integris Credit Union.

The new unit, expected to be up and running in mid January, uses direct digital technology to provide both screening exams and diagnostic breast x-ray exams.

It then delivers a quick image with less discomfort for the patient.

Early detection is a key to success in fighting breast cancer.
