A Quesnel man, accused of assaulting a police officer, has been found guilty of lesser charges.
Raymond Kozuchar, 67 at the time of his arrest, was found guilty of one count each of Resisting Arrest and Escaping From Custody.
A judge found him not guilty of Assaulting a Police Officer and Assault Causing Bodily Harm and three other charges, including Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample were stayed prior to the trial.
Kozuchar received a 60-day conditional sentence which means he likely won’t serve any jail time.
Quesnel RCMP say they stopped a vehicle on the Barkerville Highway back in June of 2014 and that the driver, when asked to provide a breath sample as part of an impaired driving investigation, refused.
Police say an officer attempted to arrest the driver and that he and his 23-year old son then began to strike the officer in the head until a second officer arrived on scene and they fled.
Ryan Kozuchar was also charged in connection with this incident.
He pled guilty to charges of Assaulting a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest and was sentenced to 165 days in jail.
