Provincial funding has allowed the TRU campus in Williams Lake to have partnered with the Xeni Gwet’in First Nation to offer 18 aboriginal learners to develop in-demand culinary skills and industry certification.
Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett, says the $218,200 investment in the training opportunity is an investment in B.C’s success.
“The more helping Aboriginals get an education like everyone else and getting a career certainly does help British Columbia add to employment for all.”
“It certainly helps British Columbia in having people qualified and certified to having the jobs that we need.”
The College of New Caledonia (CNC) in Quesnel, meanwhile will also be preparing Aboriginal students for success through employment readiness, upgrading courses, and industry safety certificates.
The training which will be offered 12 Aboriginal learners is a partnership between the Lhtako Dene First Nation and the College of New Caledonia through provincial funding of just over $145,000.
The partnerships between TRU and the Xeni Gwet’in First Nation, and the CNC and the Lhakto Dene First Nation are two of five partnerships throughout the province worth $1 million dollars.
