Category 3 Fires Once Again Allowed in the Cariboo

There may be visible smoke north of Canim Lake near 100 Mile House due to some large-scale industrial burning that is underway.

Natasha Broznitsky, Fire Information Officer from the Cariboo Fire Centre gives us the details.

“This is actually smoke from category 3 open burning currently being conducted by industrial operators. Piles of wood debris is left over from operations such as logging can create a significant wildfire risk if it is not disposed of responsibly. Category 3 burning in this area is expected to continue for the next month.”

Broznitsky says category 3 fires were once again allowed throughout the Cariboo as of September.9th 2016 and open burns will be carried out on Boss Creek Road, Spanish Creek Forest Service Road, 6300 Road, Dietrich Creek Road, and Lang Lake Forest Service Road.

Broznitsky would like to remind the public that if you wish to burn a category 3 fire that you must obtain a burn registration number by calling the burn registration line at 1-888-797-1717.
